Academic Qualifying Background
The candidates should have passed the Indian Senior Secondary Class 12 thexamination (End of 14 years of education), or an equivalent examination. The list of equivalent examinations can be found on the JEE website.

Academic Subject Background
Given that one is vying for admissions to courses entailing engineering sciences, the NTA places a compulsion on the subjects one must have taken in Class 12 thCBSE exams to ensure that candidates come with the right background. These compulsions differ across B. Tech, B. Arch, and B. Plan, and are given below:
Including the above compulsory subjects, the candidates should have cleared the 12 thclass examinations in at least 5 subjects, including “Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry / Bio / BioTech / Technical Vocational Subject, or any other”.
To enable a holistic admissions style and ensure students don’t end up only focusing on JEE preparation, the NTA mandates that students must therefore meet a minimum score requirement across their 12 thclass subjects. The previous year’s cut-offs were as follows:
- For B.Tech.
- General Candidates: Minimum 75% marks
- SC / ST Candidates: Minimum 65% marks
- Or, the top 20% of their respective board examinations
- For B. Arch.
However, for JEE Main 2022, the above criteria have been withdrawn, and the notification can be accessed via this link.
